The harvest season of the Rosa de Barbastro tomato will last until the first half of November, as the rains have delayed the harvesting work compared to previous years. This postponement will not compromise the quality of the product or production expectations, which remain at 2,600,000 kilos.
Óscar Olivera, President of the Association of Growers, Traders, and Processors, expressed his satisfaction with the development of the season since it began at the end of June and emphasized that "there are still tomatoes left to harvest. They might have a different appearance but they're very tasty because the water has favored them."
The season has been characterized by excellent quality. José Antonio Armengol, from Terra Agronómica, part of the Correas Group in Huesca, confirmed that the quality of the product grown in greenhouses was high. This year, the expansion by up to 15 hectares in greenhouses will be very noticeable in the production figures.
This group from Huesca leads production with more than 2 million kilos of Rosa tomato in Barbastro, which has consolidated as this tomato's largest production center in Aragon. If the 2.6 million kilos estimate for this campaign is met, the total production since the start of the project in 2009 will exceed 20 million kilos.
The brand's registration in October 2014 has positively influenced sales and been an important endorsement for subsequent seasons, highlighting the importance of quality and protection of the Tomate Rosa de Barbastro denomination.
