Bangladeshi growers attempting to cultivate "early" variety of tomato

Tomato growers of Kalabari union under Kotalipara upazila in the district are now busy cultivating tomatoes in advance to make a profit amid the price spiral of daily essential commodities.

A total of 413 hectares of land have been brought into tomato cultivation this season, according to sources at the agriculture office in Kotalipara.

About 3,265 growers of Kotalipara upazila are involved in tomato production, they said.

Dilip Barai, a tomato grower of Nalua village under Kalabari union, said he has cultivated the 'UDAYAN' tomato variety on 26 decimals of land this year at a cost of Tk 38,000.
