Produce show was a chance to look back–and ahead

While in one form or another, last week's IFPA Global Produce & Floral Show has been around for decades, the focus in one booth was on both the old and the new. "We wanted to come here to highlight product innovation at the SUNSET booth, as we also celebrate our 70th anniversary," says Geoff Kosar, VP of marketing for Mastronardi Produce Ltd., a fourth-generation family-owned company that reached that milestone in May.

While looking back at where the company came from is key, so is looking ahead. "We wanted to highlight the new innovative products at the show this year," says Kosar, who pointed out items such as the company's new line of Summer Series Berries–which include the Summer Dream™ Raspberry, the Summer Delight™ Strawberry, Summer Magic™ Blackberry, and Summer Pop™ Blueberry, new Queen of Greens salad kit options, as well as the full line up of Bombs On-the-Vine snacking tomatoes that now also have a Certified Organic Flavor Bombs® option.

Flavor is critical
While all of these items are focused on flavor, they also speak to a continued consumer trend that was quite evident at the show: consumers looking for convenient food, particularly produce, options.

"We're seeing a very positive response to these items because those consumers are looking for that convenience," says Kosar. "The response has been really great."
