VBT figures week 41

Cucumber price sinks, tomato price rebounds

The median price for cucumber drops, but tomato prices rise. Prices for yellow and red peppers also rebounded last week. This is evident from a survey of VBT middle prices for week 41.

Tomato prices currently rival those of the past two years. Especially noticeable for vine tomatoes is that prices in week 41 are higher than in past years. Prices are well above the five-year average for both loose and vine tomatoes.

This is no longer the case for the cucumber price, which dropped below the five-year average last week after the recent price spike. An average of 37.6 euro cents per piece was paid in week 41.

The middle prices for head lettuce and strawberry are currently at well above average levels, despite (in the case of lettuce) a drop in price after the recent price spike. The strawberry price is also yielding, averaging €5.47 per kilo.
