In the recent 2023/2024 season, Spanish pepper exports amounted to a record 1,612.44 million euros, with an average price of 1.98 euros per kilo, according to Hortoinfo based on data from the Estacom service (Icex-Tax Agency), under code 070960 of the Integrated Tariff of the European Communities – TARIC.
Spain exported 815.86 million kilos, i.e. 5.52% more than the 773.2 million kilos shipped in the previous season (the lowest figure of the last six campaigns). This increase is largely due to the 15.59% increase in purchases from Germany.
In terms of revenues, this was the most lucrative season for Spain in the history of pepper exports. The United Kingdom paid an average of 2.05 euros per kilo, the highest price among the five main buyers. Germany followed with 2.01 euros, the Netherlands with 1.96 euros, France with 1.89 euros, and Italy with 1.48 euros per kilo.
Germany was the main destination with 289.66 million kilos (more than 30% of all the pepper Spain exported) worth 582.17 million euros. France and the UK ranked second and third respectively in terms of volume. France purchased 106.95 million kilos and the UK 106.5 million kilos. The Netherlands and Italy complete the Spanish peppers' top five destination markets.
