VBT prices week 39

Sharp rise in tomato prices, head lettuce and strawberry also rise in price

Last week, tomato prices rose sharply. Both for loose and trusses, the price in week 39 at the VBT exceeded 1.50 euros. It is the first time since the start of the year that the price is so much above the five-year average at the Belgian auctions.

Lettuce prices are also shooting up. For the second week in a row. The unit price rises to EUR 1.18 in week 39. Lettuce cultivation is in the transition from outdoor to indoor.

For cucumber and sweet pepper, middle prices dropped in week 39. The first traditional growers are approaching the end of their season. Despite falling prices, prices are still above the five-year average.

Strawberry prices also rose. The average kilogram price of 9.20 euros is almost three times the five-year average.
