US (PA): Hoyt Science Center greenhouse gaining attention

After several months of development, construction, and anticipation, Hoyt Science Center's new greenhouse is finally gaining attention.

Westminster's previous greenhouse, originally located on the roof of Hoyt, was dismantled in April 2023. In its place, a brand-new, updated greenhouse was built on the south side of the science center.

Dr. Diana Ortiz, the greenhouse director, biology professor, and greenhouse director, explained more about its primary use within the biology department.

"The biology program's new greenhouse will be used to maintain the plant collection for teaching purposes and to support capstone students with their research projects," said Ortiz. "It will also serve classes and laboratory experiences that involve plant biology. Additionally, the greenhouse is open to non-biology faculty and students for teaching and research."
