Prospera Active basil hybrids:

"Keeping the plants healthy during critical cultivation periods"

Summer is ending, and it's time to review the performance of the Prospera Active basil hybrids. "These varieties have shown strong resistance to basil downy mildew (DM-0 and DM-1), even in high humidity conditions that favor the disease, both for fresh cutting and pot cultivation, indoors and outdoors", the team with Fenix Seeds says.

"It is precisely during the last rains, at the end of August, that the varieties have given proof of their ability to resist the attacks of the dreaded and sadly known basil downy mildew", they add, referring to both races known to date: DM-0 and DM-1. "The varieties perform in environments characterized by very high humidity that are favorable to the development of the pathogen: both crops intended for fresh cutting, or potting, both in the open field, and, especially, indoor."

"If, on the one hand, the high pressure of the pathogen has caused considerable damage to the cultivation of non-resistant varieties, at the same time it has provided those who have chosen to cultivate Active varieties with the conditions suitable for a more accurate evaluation of their level of resistance (IR: DM-0 and IR: DM-1) which has proven to be able to keep the plants healthy and performing even during the most critical cultivation periods. "

Fenix, the seed company behind the Prospera and Prospera Active lines, is committed to providing scientifically backed information from extensive field and lab tests. "We recommend integrated pest management to support the plants' genetic resistance, aiming to slow the emergence of new pathogen strains." This is in accordance with the guidelines suggested by the historical partner and breeder of the varieties Genesis Seeds LTD in cooperation with Tel Aviv Bar-Ilan University.

"If we want to safeguard the progress achieved with the Active range for the longest time possible, it is necessary not to let our guard down, working all to try to reduce as much as possible the possibility that Peronospora belbahrii evolves into new breeds."
