US: Texas A&M to host field day in October

The Texas A&M Department of Horticultural Sciences has announced that it will be hosting a field day on Friday, October 4th, the day after Spirited Learning and immediately preceding the Missouri football game. This event will showcase active research programs at the new TAMU Horticulture Teaching, Research, and Extension Center (Hort-TREC), located approximately 10 miles west of campus near Snook, TX.

The facility features 22,000 square feet of greenhouse space and over 130 acres of research field plots.

Lunch will be included in the registration fee, along with a wine and fruit tasting and unique door prizes. The event is open to horticulture industry personnel, but also Master Gardeners and the public.

The field day will include guided tours of:

  • The greenhouse/nursery facility,
  • The fruit research plots,
  • The TAMU research vineyard, and
  • The TAMU pecan research orchard.

During the field tours, the following crops and more will be covered:

  • Apricot,
  • Fig,
  • Kiwifruit,
  • Melon,
  • Pear,
  • Pepper,
  • Potato,
  • Table grape,
  • Wine grape
