Over 60 tons of contaminated tomatoes and peppers prevented to enter Russia from China

In Zabaykalsky Krai, Russia, the regional office of Rosselkhoznadzor conducted quarantine and phytosanitary inspections from January 1 to September 16, 2023. The inspections covered 23,400 tons of imported solanaceous crops, including 12,300 tons of peppers, 10,600 tons of tomatoes, and 500 tons of aubergines.

The total volume of imported solanaceous crops during this period increased by 12.5% compared to the same period last year, when 20,800 tons were imported.

As a result of inspections, Rosselkhoznadzor detected the Tomato brown rugose fruit virus in 25 cases, leading to the identification of 61.6 tons of contaminated produce.

To prevent the spread of this pest within Russia, authorities decided to return the entire batch of affected tomatoes and peppers to China, according to Russian regulations.
