TIC4BIO presents in Seville: a tool that could save up to 20% of irrigation water

TIC4BIO, a group focused on increasing the competitiveness of the organic agri-food sector in Andalusia, has launched an ICT tool that could reduce water consumption in farms by up to 20%. In addition, this application would contribute to a significant increase in biodiversity on farms, which could lead to a 38% decrease in the annual cost of inputs such as manure, fertilizers, and pesticides, compared to farms that do not implement these practices.

This free web application was presented at the Cortijo El Puerto farm in Lora del Río, Seville, a site that has served as a study and application area for the technologies proposed by this project. The TIC4BIO platform is structured in three main modules: precision irrigation, water footprint, and biodiversity.

"The operational group has produced very positive results that will give organic farms that use this application the ability to make informed and strategic decisions to improve water efficiency and increase biodiversity, in line with the objectives of the European Green Deal," stated Auxiliadora Vecina, Ecovalia's Head of Innovation.

TIC4BIO's team is made up of Ecovalia, a Spanish professional association for organic production, the University of Cordoba and the Campus of Agri-Food Excellence (ceiA3); the ceiA3 UCO AGR 228 Hydraulics and Irrigation research group; Ingeoliva, a family business that specializes in precision organic farming; and Dacartec, a company that develops technological solutions.
