Status of Andalusia's greenhouse crops in summer

The Agricultural and Fisheries Information Service of the Junta de AndalucĂa has issued a report on the state of greenhouse crops in the region from July 22 to the beginning of September.

In Almeria, producers commonly carry out soil solarization disinfection practices in periods of high temperature, preparing the ground for the next campaign. Some greenhouses have already started the new season and are in the early stages of cultivation with newly transplanted plants. Pest control has been intensified to protect the young plants from extreme environmental conditions.

Pepper plantations in Almeria, including the California and Lamuyo varieties, are in different transplanting stages. Tomato transplants began in August, with many greenhouses finalizing soil solarization. Aubergines and cucumbers are also in the early stages of cultivation or close to being planted, while zucchini crops are in the soil disinfection period.

Producers are harvesting Italian peppers in Cadiz, specifically in the Northwest Coast region. Yields are good but there have been reports of virus issues. Pear tomatoes are in different stages of ripening.

In Granada, producers in La Costa have started planting Cherry tomatoes, with soil preparation including the incorporation of peat. Greenhouse Pear and Caniles tomatoes are being harvested in Alhama, Zafarraya. Green beans have also been planted in the region.

Producers in Huelva are getting ready to plant strawberries. They have already irrigated the farms and prepared the beds. Producers have already started planting raspberries, with varieties such as Noelia and Adelita growing vegetatively. Blueberry plantations have been pruned and irrigated during summer to get them ready for the next cultivation stage.
