Greenhouse grower meets the needs of Romanian seasonal workers with new housing complex

Belgium greenhouse grower Den Berk Délice has built its housing for seasonal workers. The latest project, DBD Housing, is located in Merksplas (Belgium). The complex was specially designed to meet the needs of Romanian seasonal workers and offer them a home away from home.

The construction of DBD Housing was prompted by the tomato growers' desire to attract more Romanian seasonal workers, they explained in a blog. "We understand how important it is to attract qualified and motivated workers to efficiently run the work at our four sites in Merksplas. By offering high-quality accommodation, we hope to create an attractive working environment that meets not only their professional but also their personal needs."

Welcoming employees
In total, DBD Housing comprises 21 flats spread over four blocks that collectively accommodate as many as 130 people. Each flat has a communal kitchen, laundry, shower, and toilet, allowing residents to cook and relax together after a long working day. In addition, each bedroom is equipped with two individual beds, a private washbasin, and two wardrobes, providing an extra level of privacy and comfort.

Two reception staff, Beniamin, and Anamaria, have been employed for the project to ensure that everyone feels welcome and well-supported. Bicycles are also available for people in the complex. "This enables them to commute to work effortlessly, but also to go shopping or explore the area in their free time."
