This week's playful wholesale action in the French market

"More demand for Dutch Red Egg tomatoes in Europe"

The growing demand for high-quality tomato brands in Europe is also benefiting The Greenery's Dutch tomato Red Egg. During the season, demand increases and sales expand within Europe. The Greenery growers, Kwekerij Nico Duijvestijn and Tom and Theo Ammerlaan of Themato handle the cultivation of the Red Egg tomatoes. These growers focus on quality and flexibility, and realise a short chain thanks to ex-farm shipments.

Unique characteristics
The Red Egg, as the name suggests, has an egg shape that ensures nice, even slices of tomato when cut. It contains more flesh than its plum tomato counterparts and loses almost no moisture when sliced, making it an ideal choice for sandwiches, salads or wok dishes. But Red Egg tomatoes offer even more applications, such as in soups or sauces, as they have a delicious slightly sweet and spicy flavour.

Proud Dutch growers
Tom and Theo Ammerlaan of Themato, and Nico Duijvestijn grow the Red Egg tomatoes with dedication: "Within our company, we do everything possible to supply the customer with the best product. He sees this reflected in the delivery of the right quality, with good service and a high degree of flexibility," says Theo Ammerlaan (Themato). The tomatoes are packed in the recognisable Red Egg boxes or, when there is demand, in customer-specific packaging. This is how they are distributed throughout Europe.

Sales development
Jesper van Oostende (senior sales representative trade, The Greenery) shares this season's developments: "Red Egg achieved nice positions within retail in Western Europe, including the UK, during the season. In terms of exports, Eastern Europe is particularly prominent in the early and late season, while in between there is strong demand from Southern European countries. In addition, there is a continuous flow of exports through various channels towards the Middle and Far East."

Promotion
To provide additional support for the Red Egg during the season, a playful wholesale promotion is underway in the French market this week. As part of this promotion, an eye-catching promotional package has been put together, completely in keeping with the Red Egg brand, with the aim of raising even more awareness of the brand. This package consists of a typical egg cup, a canvas bag, an A2 poster and flyers. Customers can win this package by taking a creative photo with Red Egg tomatoes and sharing it on LinkedIn with #RedEggContest.
