Apex Greenhouses has built over 50 hectares of greenhouses for the Flavorite Group, a vertically integrated glasshouse company specializing from seedlings to sales. Their focus is mainly on tomatoes, capsicums, and cucumbers.
"We build with Apex because we like them in general. It's good to work with people in our time zone because you want to talk to people when you have problems to be fixed. The builders are constantly on the site and they also have a very stable crew of builders whom we all know." Chris Millis, COO of the Flavorite Group, in his experience working with Apex Greenhouses.
"We only had 4 hectares of plastic houses before starting the project. Now, there are over 80 hectares of glasshouses. So it's been a very productive 30 years. Of the 80 hectares, Apex has built over 50 of them."
"Safety for Flavorite is extremely important. Working with glass and harnesses when building glasshouses, Apex knows the local laws and they abide by them. We don't have to be the police officers continuously chasing them down to abide by the rules. This has unfortunately been the case when working with some European cowboys."
Chris likes the thrust post of Apex because they get to put a hanging gutter on the pole rod through the middle of that gutter which is quite important in getting good row spacing. When looking at productivity, Flavorite has been able to achieve above budget in particularly large thrust crops.
Flavorite emphasizes that when using Australian glasshouse builders, the money stays within the country, looking after the Australian economy.
