University of Florida: Greenhouse Training courses

Two courses will start on the 16th of September: Field Diagnosis of Plant Diseases (new for 2024) and Nutrient Management.

The new course will be an intermediate-level course that teaches the detection and diagnosis of common greenhouse and nursery diseases, including appropriate and field-friendly scouting and sampling techniques. It is taught by Dr. Carrie Harmon, Director of the UF/IFAS Plant Diagnostic Center in Gainesville, FL, and Co-Director of the National Plant Diagnostic Network. This brand-new course expands on the past Disease Management course, which was described as "very dynamic, which makes it easy to understand and apply to our day-to-day work in the greenhouse." This course is part of the Plant Health Professional Certificate.

Nutrient Management entails an advanced-level course where you will formulate your own fertilizer from individual salts, diagnose nutritional problems, and take corrective actions. Rated 4.5 out of 5 by grower participants. This course is taught by Dr. Paul Fisher, creator of the Greenhouse Training Online program. Join the over 580 graduates who have said the course "provided a treasure trove of information from differentiating abiotic and biotic disorders, to nutrient recipe production, to common visual symptoms of nutrient deficiencies and toxicities to interpreting tissue and nutrient analyses" and appreciated the "ability to access an extremely knowledgeable instructor and receive feedback on work."

Each course costs US$275 per participant, with a 20% discount if you register 5 or more. All course material is completely online and available at any time of the day and includes pre-recorded videos, an interactive discussion board with PhD professors, and quizzes. Course material is available in English and Spanish, and two new modules are activated each week during each course, for a total of 8 learning modules.
