First strawberry plants in a new greenhouse at Proefcentrum Hoogstraten

Proefcentrum Hoogstraten in Meerle has a new greenhouse. After a turbulent construction period that included a lot of precipitation, they are now ready to plant the first crops in the new greenhouses, according to an update from company manager Roel Vanderbruggen.

The new greenhouse will be used for research into energy use, disease and pest control, the use of sensors, and robotization. The main crops are tomatoes and strawberries. In early February, the first strawberries were still expected to be planted in mid-August. Eventually, that deadline was met.
