US (VA): Indoor grower to add electric truck to their fleet

Through the partnership with Penske Truck Leasing, Soli Organic could deploy a battery-electric truck into its fleet.

Soli Organic is integrating the Freightliner® eCascadia® vehicle into its Virginia-based logistics hub to improve its distribution of fresh, organic, high-value produce while further decreasing its carbon footprint. The pilot will run for 6 months and help inform the future transformation of their refrigerated LTL (less-than-truckload) transportation service.

"The addition of this new electric vehicle is a testament to Soli Organic's ongoing commitment to using innovation to help us advance our leadership in sustainability," said Matt Ryan, CEO of Soli Organic. "This trial will provide us with valuable insights into the operational efficiencies and environmental benefits of electrifying our supply chain."

Penske Truck Leasing is Soli Organic's primary provider for its end-to-end vehicle fleet that reaches critical distribution centers and more than 20,000 retail stores nationwide.

"We are very pleased to support Soli Organic's continued sustainability efforts," stated Paul Rosa, Penske senior vice president of procurement and fleet planning. "The Freightliner® eCascadia® is designed to deliver strong performance while minimizing environmental impact."

"Most recently, Soli Organic unveiled its soil-based vertical farm and packing facility in San Antonio, Texas, which grows organic produce indoors with 90% less water and 99% less land than traditional outdoor farming, further exemplifying the company's continued growth and commitment to sustainability."
