China: Constructing a greenhouse with -25°C

The Karaqi Modern Agricultural Industrial Park, constructed by Kingpeng, covers an area of 200,000 square meters and commenced construction in June 2023. At the initial design stage of the project, Kingpeng utilized 3D software for reverse design verification, effectively reducing the points of facility errors.

To accelerate the implementation and effectiveness of the project, Kingpeng has set up a project department for Karqin, clearly defining goals and plans, and carefully considering various aspects such as construction time, cost, quality, and risk.

The Karaqin region experiences extremely cold winters, with average daily temperatures below 0°C and extreme lows reaching below -25°C. As low-temperature weather conditions such as cooling, rain, snow (hail), and freezing continue to emerge, they pose severe challenges to the safe construction of the project. In the face of extreme cold weather, a detailed winter construction plan should be formulated in advance to ensure the safety and quality of the construction work, and to steadily advance the project development.

To improve the yield, this project features low-reflection scattering tempered glass on the roof. "This effectively reduces direct light reflection, enhances the uniformity of light inside the greenhouse, and softens the scattered light", a Kingpeng representative says. "It promotes even growth of crops, allowing light to penetrate into the middle and lower parts of the crop canopy, reducing the occurrence of botrytis at the bottom, improving the efficiency of photosynthesis, and enhancing both the yield and quality of the crops."

The facade is made of hollow float tempered glass, which not only has excellent thermal insulation properties but also allows strong light penetration, making the interior of the greenhouse brighter.

The project is equipped with comprehensive supporting facilities and greenhouse equipment, such as an intelligent climate control system, an integrated water and fertilizer system, a CO2 replenishment system, a side insulation system, a shading system, and a biological pest control system.

In response to the hot summer environment, the system automatically opens windows and activates high-pressure misting for humidification and cooling. Additionally, indoor air circulation can be achieved through horizontal and vertical fans, effectively reducing the internal temperature of the greenhouse and achieving cooling results in summer.

"The structural design of the greenhouse fully takes into account details such as ventilation and drainage. Through a scientifically reasonable layout and meticulous construction, it ensures a comfortable and stable internal environment, achieving low carbon, eco-friendly, and green production processes, providing optimal growth conditions for plants", the Kingpeng representative adds.

No, the various work at the park is progressing in an orderly manner according to plan. Among them, some greenhouses have already transformed from "construction drawings" to "actual scenes," as completion was scheduled for February 2024, and planting to be finalized by June.
