China: A strawberry vertical farm in Ulanqab celebrates the harvest

Recently, a strawberry vertical farm in Ulanqab had a fruitful harvest. The farm is located at the picturesque heart of the Inner Mongolia grasslands and spans 5,000 square meters, established by 4D Bios. Inner Mongolia is in the North of China, rich in coal, wind, solar, and other resources, providing a unique advantage for the power industry. Besides, it has the third-largest power grid in China - the Mengxi Power Grid. In recent years, with government policy support, some modern horticulture facilities have been built here; the strawberry vertical farm of 4D Bios is one of them.

The Ulanqab smart strawberry base
Founded in 2018, 4D Bios is fully committed to smart agriculture, focusing on innovative research and development in plant factory technology. The headquarters is in Hangzhou, China. Until now, 4D Bios has invested tens of millions annually in research and development and holds more than 130 patents worldwide, demonstrating a high level of innovation.

Regarding vertical farms in Ulanqab, by simulating optimal conditions, it achieves meticulous control over key factors such as temperature, humidity, lighting, nutrient supply, and carbon dioxide concentration to establish a year-round high-yield growth environment for strawberry plants. According to the company, it is estimated that the base's annual output will exceed 180 metric tons, with yields of quality strawberries per acre being up to 15-25 times higher than traditional outdoor cultivation.

"Our strawberries have passed rigorous testing by international authorities such as SGS, ensuring products are free from pesticide residues, synthetic growth hormones, and heavy metals. The strawberries are favored by consumers for their rich aroma, delicate texture, and sweet, juicy taste," a person from 4D Bios says.

Continue expanding in Inner Mongolia
4D Bios plans to expand new planting bases in Inner Mongolia and focus on developing the core market in northern China to meet consumer demand with high-quality, high-value agricultural products. At the same time, the company is actively seeking to expand into international markets. In the first half of 2024, its strawberry products were successfully exported to Southeast Asian countries such as Singapore, Malaysia, and Indonesia, with plans to expand its export footprint to the Middle East, Europe, and beyond. Company management hopes that its technology will enable users to enhance and scale their strawberry cultivation to meet growing global demand in the near future.
