Op Ioppì: "We wish to widen our partnerships with Italian clients"

"June was characterized by low prices for all vegetable products, as they have gone back to pre-pandemic levels. Average quotations have been well below expectations. The two main variables that have led to this situation were the overlapping with foreign competitors and the drop in demand by Italian and foreign big retail chains," explained Roberta Tardera from OP "Ioppì" in Acate (RG).

"The price of cherry tomatoes in particular dropped from €0.80 to €0.40/kg for ending productions. These prices do not cover production costs. The processing industry offers €0.20-0.25/kg."

"Pixel and Piccadilly are doing only marginally better, as their price currently ranges from €0.60 and €0.30/kg. Plum tomatoes go from €1/kg for extra produce and €0.50/kg for the older batches."

"These dynamics induced us to launch a new product for us, i.e. a cherry tomato sauce. The market responded well, as consumers are enjoying the excellent quality of the product. The recognizability of the Op Ioppì brand proved essential."

"Unlike red tomatoes, Sweet Palermo peppers have been successful this year from a commercial point of view. They attract consumers thanks to their sweetness and digestibility and have maintained good production prices. Sweet Palermo peppers were commercialized with excellent results both through the Italian big retail chain and on the wholesale markets. The results obtained with our colored plum tomato gourmet lines are just as good."

"The objective of OP Ioppì for this next productive and commercial campaign is to widen the number of Italian clients thanks to the premium lines. We will also strengthen the relationship with big retail chains in Eastern Europe, where the commercialization of Italian products is expanding."
