CapGen Seeds expands its presence in Europe with a new subsidiary in Italy

CapGen Seeds has officially launched CapGen Seeds Italy with the opening of a new subsidiary in the south of the country, in the region of Sicily. This move confirms the company's commitment to innovation and its ability to adapt its products to different agricultural environments, strengthening its position in the development of high quality seeds.

There were good reasons to select Sicily. The region is known for its great agricultural tradition and ideal weather conditions and offers a perfect environment for the adaptation and development of new seed varieties. CapGen Seeds Italy will have half a hectare at its disposal to assess the adaptability of its varieties to Italian growing conditions. This area will be mainly devoted to the development of papayas and tomatoes, key products for the Italian market. This approach will allow the company to carry out internal screenings and refine those seeds that seem best suited, thus allowing Italian producers to maximize their crops' quality and yields.

"This is a great opportunity for both CapGen Seeds and the Italian market," says Bartolo Rendo, R&D Manager at CapGen Seeds Italy. "New companies gaining access to the market is always greatly beneficial for the sector."

Focus on innovation and adaptability of CapGen Seeds Italia
The main objective of CapGen Seeds Italia is to give a boost to the various varieties that the company has been introducing in recent years. With a dedicated team of specialists and technicians, the new subsidiary will work on fine-tuning and improving the seeds so that they are perfectly adapted to the Italian weather and soil. This process of continuous improvement is essential to ensure that producers get the best possible results.

Rafael Cremades, Managing Director of CapGen Seeds, says: "We are excited about the opening of our Italian subsidiary. This expansion will allow us not only to strengthen our presence in Europe but also to offer innovative agricultural solutions specifically tailored to the needs of Italian growers."

New line of research: papaya
In addition to improving its current services, CapGen Seeds is launching a new line focused on papayas, with a special focus on the Alicia variety. The main goal is to confirm the good performance of this variety in Mediterranean areas such as Sicily, where this variety is already grown. The Alicia papaya has been conceived and selected for greenhouse cultivation in non-tropical conditions due to its dwarf size, although it can also be grown in the open ground.

The Alicia papaya is characterized by a perfumed aroma and orange-red flesh, which is indicative of its high beta-lycopene content. Furthermore, its texture makes it suitable for fresh consumption as well as for juice production. The fruit's firmness also allows it to be harvested ripe directly from the plant, so it will contain more sugars. This ensures the supply of a high quality product to consumers. Papaya has been identified as a crop with great potential in Sicily, given its ideal weather conditions.

"The combination of advanced technology, constant research and a deep understanding of local needs will allow CapGen Seeds Italy to become a leader in the seed sector in the country," says Rendo.

With the opening of its new subsidiary in Sicily, CapGen Seeds is poised to truly make a difference in Italian agriculture. The dedication to varietal adaptability and the development of new product lines, such as papaya, underlines the company's long-term vision. Italian growers can expect remarkable improvements in the quality and yield of their crops thanks to CapGen Seeds' innovations.
