Vereijken Kwekerijen from Beek en Donk has purchased 65 hectares in Californië in Horst aan de Maas (the Netherlands). The purchase is zoned for 51 hectares of agro- and glasshouse activities, and possibly also the housing of employees.
Initially, planning permission is requested for the construction of greenhouses. They plan to start the first construction phase of the nursery on Sint Jorisweg in the spring of 2025. "Next year, we will carefully start filling the first few hectares," says Hans Vereijken of Vereijken Kwekerijen in the Eindhovens Dagblad (in Dutch). The first tomatoes from the new greenhouse are expected in spring 2026.
14 of the 65 hectares will be incorporated in the existing natural structure. There will be a wide green zone around the plot with cross-connections, it involves "much attention to biodiversity "
The Vereijken family has more than 60 years of experience. Meanwhile, the second and third generations are at work within Vereijken Kwekerijen. On more than 60 hectares, spread over seven cultivation sites in North Brabant, Limburg and the Westland, Tasty Tom tomatoes are grown. Vereijken Kwekerijen also has its own packaging branches, where the tomatoes are packed and prepared for customers.
In the greenhouse area, Californië 2, 51 hectares were still available. At the end of last year, it was already known that the land had been sold (in Dutch).
