Ukrainian village develops vegetable farming, builds greenhouses and storage facilities

In the Ukrainian village of Perebykivtsi, almost every resident engages in vegetable farming. They cultivate two crops per year, including cucumbers and Napa cabbage, as well as early, mid, and late varieties of cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower, various types of tomatoes, zucchinis, aubergines, peppers, onions, table beets, and carrots. They also grow early sweet corn and strawberries.

This was highlighted by Ruslan Zaparaniuk, the head of the Chernivtsi Regional State Administration, on his Facebook page. "Perebykivtsi is a village in the Bukovynian. Its unique location is characterized by being surrounded by the Dniester River on three sides. The microclimate here is special - temperatures are consistently 2–5 degrees Celsius higher than surrounding areas, and there's minimal wind. This makes the area highly suitable for cultivating a wide variety of crops, which residents have taken full advantage of," he noted.

Zaparaniuk further added that approximately 300 greenhouses have been built in the village for growing early vegetables, and around 90 storage facilities, including 20 equipped with refrigeration, have been constructed for preserving the produce. "The village residents are fully employed, and during the harvest season, several hundred additional residents from neighbouring villages find work here," emphasized the head of the regional administration.

He concluded by stating that vegetable farming is a significant sector of agriculture, constituting a quarter of the total production volume in the plant cultivation industry within the region.
