Vegetable grower relies on biomass utilization plant

Geothermal energy, solar energy, and biogas are to be utilized at Grob Gemüse AG to produce heat and electricity as independently as possible. A state-of-the-art biomass utilization plant (BMVA) is therefore to be built in the immediate vicinity of the greenhouses in Thurgau in the coming year. The plans are now public.

The planned plant will convert around 15,000 tonnes of organic waste and crop residues into biogas every year. This biogas will then be converted into electricity and heat in a combined heat and power plant. According to the press release, the electricity generated will be fed into the public grid, while the heat will be used to heat the 7.5-hectare greenhouses and the company buildings.

This will significantly reduce CO₂ emissions. Once the plant is commissioned, which would be possible from mid-2026, 1.5 skilled jobs would also be created.
