Grower Susanne Görtz after disappointing morello cherries harvest

"It's abnormal, the risks we have to take as growers"

"Without good and authorised solutions against the Suzuki fly, this is the result," morello grower Susanne Görtz wrote on LinkedIn. There was an accompanying a photo of a disappointing harvest. She finds the risks growers have to face "abnormal" and casts a glance into the future.

"What this means for morello cherries in Limburg? I think the acreage will shrink hard after this year and we will also switch even faster to other crops and other infills. Meanwhile, we cherish the short chains we have established with understanding buyers and hope for solutions for our young orchards. As growers, we cannot do this alone, and we know that the staff of LLTB, LTO, NFO and Biohuis and many others are fully committed to this. Thank you, without you, it would be even more difficult!"

When a ban on crucial plant protection products threatened this spring, Susanne also made herself heard, as did her colleagues. The ban on agents against the Suzuki fly did not materialise.
