US company expands blueberry cultivation in southern Peru

NuBerry Farms, an American blueberry marketing firm with operations across various states including Florida, Georgia, New Jersey, and Michigan, alongside partnerships in North Carolina, Washington, Chile, and Peru, is channeling investments into the cultivation of new blueberry varieties in southern Peru. The initiative aims at bolstering organic production to bridge existing supply gaps within the industry. According to John Conner, the company's executive director, achieving success in the blueberry market necessitates comprehensive control over the supply chain, from seed to fork, with a particular emphasis on ensuring a steady supply of organic blueberries and introducing the right varieties to meet market demands.

In collaboration with producer partners, NuBerry Farms maintains a continuous supply of fresh blueberries year-round, a capability that has seen its customer base more than double in 2023. The partnerships with Chilean and Peruvian producers are strategic for covering the winter and spring seasons, enhancing the company's ability to meet customer needs. Additionally, NuBerry Farms plans to introduce new blueberry varieties in its fields in Georgia, Florida, and Washington, further solidifying its competitive edge in the marketplace. This expansion is supported by the company's infrastructure and a vertically integrated business model, as reported by The Produce News portal.

Despite the challenges encountered in 2023, the outlook for the blueberry industry appears positive, with Albert Grimaldi, managing partner at NuBerry Farms, anticipating a higher total tonnage compared to the previous season. The company looks forward to leveraging favorable growing conditions across its operational regions to promote domestic blueberries, underscoring the importance of strong customer partnerships in delivering consistent, high-quality produce.
