The demand for rapid and accurate testing for the presence of ToBRFV is high not only in Europe but also in the United States and Canada. Pathogens often transcend national borders. Spark Radar noticed almost immediately after launching their first virus test kit on the market that there was a significant need for a reliable rapid test that could detect the virus before symptoms appeared.
Initially, the biggest challenge was ensuring the timely delivery of the virus tests to the US, Canada, and other parts of the world, as they were transported in dry ice. However, now that Spark Radar has succeeded in delivering the test in a freeze-dried format with the same high quality and reliability, they are no longer dependent on dry ice.
"With this innovative improvement, we can now distribute our virus test kits globally," shares Rogier van der Voort, who founded the company alongside Bas Rutjens. Spark Radar made its debut in the sector in 2022, introducing virus test kits to the industry.
"There is a significant demand for a robust, reliable rapid test that doesn't require external labs. Our updated test has successfully passed all tests. We are no longer restricted by the maximum storage time of 48 to 72 hours when using dry ice for transport and can now deliver the tests worldwide."

In response to market demand, the company has recently shifted its focus to enhancing user-friendliness. "Previously, some components of the test had to be stored in the freezer, while others required refrigeration. Now, all the necessary components are packaged in one aluminum bag. As soon as you tear it open, you're ready to begin."
Although the updated, freeze-dried virus test kit may appear different at first glance due to the modifications, Rogier emphasizes that the test functions with the same reliability. The company has developed its own equipment for reading the tests, which users utilize with a magnetic rack and a detection rack.
"By utilizing our self-developed equipment, we can detect specific viruses or bacteria even more accurately, further enhancing the sensitivity of our test. Canadian and American growers will now have access to this advancement. We have full confidence in our product."
