In Astana, Kazakhstan, contaminated tomato seeds were disposed of after inspectors from the State Committee for Inspection in the Agricultural Complex detected a tomato brown rugose fruit virus during an inspection at the "ZhD Astana" Agricultural Industrial Complex on April 22, as reported by Bizmedia.kz. The inspection revealed the presence of the viral infection in imported from Russia, totaling 2700 infected seeds across 108 packages.
A protocol was drawn up against the owner of the seed batch.
Additionally, 1320 infected flower cuttings—roses, chrysanthemums, and gypsophila—imported from Kenya were destroyed due to contamination with the Western flower thrips. Owners were fined for this violation.
In another incident in Uralsk, inspectors intercepted and prevented the spread of infected tomatoes from Russia weighing one ton during a plant quarantine check. According to the "Moy Gorod" web portal, the produce contained the ToBRFV virus, resulting in a violation notice. The infected batch was destroyed by incineration in an approved location in the presence of a responsible committee.
