In the first quarter of 2024, Turkmenistan witnessed a 3% increase in its tomato exports compared to the same timeframe in 2023, as reported by the MIC. This uptick underscores a rising international appetite for Turkmen agricultural outputs. The Russian Federation, the Republic of Kazakhstan, and the Kyrgyz Republic emerge as principal importers, with Kazakhstan experiencing a notable 20% surge in imports during this period.
Year-over-year, Turkmenistan has seen a consistent expansion in its tomato export volumes. From 2020 to 2023, there was a 239% increase in exports, culminating in the sale of 128 thousand tons of tomatoes internationally in 2023. This marked a 3.4-fold rise from 2020 figures. Russia and Kazakhstan remain the top export destinations, accounting for 57% and 28% of the exports, respectively.
