"In our recent research, we have discovered that using specific wavelengths of LED light can significantly enhance the growth rate and yield of potatoes," says Dr. Zhou, the leader of the research from Shenzhen ACE Lighting company. "Our findings are highly exciting and promising. It not only demonstrates the potential of LED light technology in agricultural production but also provides practical guidelines for its effective utilization."
The research was conducted at "The ACE Optics Research Lab" by an interdisciplinary team, which aimed to explore the effects of artificial light sources on crop growth. The team focused on potatoes - one of the world's important food crops, to test the influence of LED with different spectrums on their growth cycles.
During the research, we found that using LED with a specific ratio of blue and red color can accelerate potato growth and increase yield. Potatoes in the experimental group matured faster than those in the control group without LED. The yield was significantly higher in the group than in the control group. Meanwhile, vitamin C and antioxidants are improved.
This advancement in LED technology opens up new possibilities for cultivating crops in non-traditional environments such as indoor farms and space stations. "We plan to further explore the potential benefits of LED for other crops and how to maximize their applications in sustainable agricultural production."
