Beekenkamp Packaging's new cultivation system has proven its worth not only alongside Kraege Beerenplanzen in Germany but also at Vinson in England. In essence, the system elevates the tray from the ground, enhancing air circulation around the roots, which results in a stronger and more vigorous plant. Hence, a stronger plant means that crop protection products are significantly less used.
The new cultivation system
Automation
A key advantage of this system is that the machine operates overhead, moving across the trays. The machine handles pruning, crop protection, and fertilization; thus, it saves a considerable amount of labor.
Walkways for personnel are no longer necessary, so the number of plants per hectare can be significantly increased. Bob Persoon, sales manager at Beekenkamp Packaging: "It's a win-win situation: less crop protection, more plants per hectare, and reduced labor. The automation results in better quality and plant uniformity."
The new cultivation trays from Beekenkamp Packaging are designed to seamlessly integrate with the cultivation system of GeGe Machinebouw. Bob: "We came up with this together." The trays are legless, and the standard for June-bearers is 12 holes. They are also available in 24 or 66 holes for smaller plant types. They are durable, reusable, and suitable for steaming (under certain conditions) because they are made from recycled plastic.
