According to a comparison carried out by Hortoinfo using FAOSTAT data, the total value generated by the cucumbers produced in Spain significantly surpasses that of other countries. Compared to the Netherlands, the value is 83.96% higher. It is also 1.3% greater than that of Turkey, and an astonishing 4,005.84% greater than that of Morocco.
Data on the price per kilo paid to producers and the kilos produced in 2022 were used to carry out this comparison. Spain produced 769.97 million kilos of cucumbers, with an average price of 0.80 euros per kilo, totaling 618.75 million euros.
Turkey came close to Spain's value, with a production that was 2.5 times greater than Spain's. With 1,938.54 million kilos produced at an average price of 0.32 euros per kilo, its total value was 610.82 million euros.
For its part, Morocco had a much lower production in 2022, with 63.15 million kilos at an average price of 0.24 euros per kilo, adding up to a total of 15.07 million euros.
Lastly, the production in the Netherlands amounted to 400.13 million kilos, mostly grown in greenhouses, with an average price of 0.84 euros per kilo, resulting in a total value of 336.35 million euros.
