Lithuanian farmers to stage large-scale protest in Vilnius

On Tuesday, Lithuanian farmers are set to stage a large-scale protest in Vilnius, demonstrating against the country's agricultural policies. The protest, organised by the Lithuanian Farmers’ Union (LŪS), will see the capital's streets filled with tractors and other agricultural machinery. The main event is planned in front of the government building on Gediminas Avenue.

The protest is set to begin officially on Wednesday and continue until Friday. Raimundas Juknevičius, president of LŪS, indicated that the final count of protesters and machinery was still uncertain, as numbers continued to grow. Initial estimates suggested 500 units of agricultural machinery and around 5,000 farmers would participate in the protest.

Tractor convoys, under police escort, began moving along Gediminas Avenue from Tuesday morning. These convoys will remain in designated areas until the main event in front of the government building. This protest follows a similar event in early January, where farmers across Lithuania demonstrated against various agricultural issues, including increased excise duty on liquefied petroleum gas and the dairy crisis.
