BLE report Week 1:

Spanish and Turkish goods topped the vine tomato market

Cherry tomatoes predominantly came from Italy and the Netherlands, while beef tomatoes were mainly from Spain and Turkey. Round tomatoes were primarily from Turkey, Spain, and Morocco, while vine tomatoes from Spain and Turkey topped the market. Overall, quite a diverse range of products was available. According to the BLE, the volume of tomatoes from all origins, except Turkey, was significantly lower than three weeks ago, which particularly increased the value of Spanish vine tomatoes and all beef and cherry tomatoes.

In general, Spanish fruits were not always convincing in terms of quality. In Berlin, they were only available to a limited extent, which made them quite expensive. Customers there preferred to resort to Turkish imports, which were cheaper compared to their Moroccan competitors. The demand could generally be met without major efforts. In a steady business environment, there were no major price fluctuations during the week.

Apples
Local offers set the tone. Overall, the marketing was slow, and demand could be met without difficulty.

Pears
The offer mainly consisted of Turkish Santa Maria, Italian Abate Fetel and Santa Maria, and Dutch Conference and Xenia. Belgian and domestic Conference as well as local Xenia followed in terms of importance.

Grapes
Imports from Peru and South Africa dominated, with the latter gaining relevance noticeably. Many different varieties were available, with light and seedless fruits being the focus of buyers.

Oranges
Navel varieties from Spain prevailed; Navelina was available overall. In the blood orange sector, Spanish Cara Cara dominated, being of excellent quality.

Small citrus fruits
Spanish Clementines dominated, mainly Clemenules were available. Due to the uncomfortable weather, demand had increased in some places, but this did not fundamentally affect the ratings.

Lemons
Spanish offers outweighed Turkish ones. The marketing took place in a calm frame. Prices could develop quite differently.

Bananas
Marketing usually proceeded in quite a calm way. Supply and demand were mostly in harmony. Prices often had to be adjusted downwards slightly due to a lower demand.

Cauliflower
Italian, French, Spanish, and Belgian offers were available in both 6-pack and 8-pack packaging, while Turkish and Dutch products were only offered in 6-box crates.

Lettuce
Butterhead lettuce and mixed salads came from Italy, Belgium, and France, while iceberg lettuce came in from Spain exclusively. The availability was not always sufficient to meet demand. Iceberg lettuce was particularly scarce.

Cucumbers
Spanish cucumbers dominated. The availability was rather scarce. Therefore, prices occasionally showed an upward trend.

Bell peppers
The interest could not always be fully satisfied. Therefore, prices usually tended upwards.
