Boray Pipe and Profile Inc. introduces new magnesium-aluminium coating:

A steel coating good for 25 years

Boray Pipe and Profile Inc. has recently introduced their new ternary alloy-coated steel, BorMag (94.5% Zn-3% Mg-2.5% Al). The steel was designed to elevate the reliability and durability of steel products. Despite only being in use for three months in the sector, Boray is so confident in their new products that they ensure a 25-year guarantee.

The Magnesium in BorMag's coating layer is the main benefactor in its durability, according to Boray, as it serves as a catalyst for the formation of 'Simonkolleite (Zn5(OH)8Cl2 · H2O),' a corrosion product. When this film-like substance covers the coating layer's surface, it acts as a formidable corrosion inhibitor, enhancing the longevity of the base metal.

"BorMag's estimated lifespan is 50 to 100 years, depending on coating weight under salt damage conditions, surpassing the corrosion resistance of normal hot-dip galvanized steel sheets (GI, HGI) by 5 to 10 times. Applying BorMag is as straightforward as it gets. The same processing, assembly, and painting procedures used for traditional GI materials seamlessly translate to BorMag, ensuring ease of integration into existing construction workflows," says Murat Kahraman of Boray Boru.
