In Israel, strawberries have surged to 29,3 euros per kilogram and above, prompting a notable supermarket chain owner, Rami Levi, to refuse to sell the beloved berries at such steep prices. Levi took to Facebook, stating that strawberries won't be available in his stores until the prices decrease. Journalists from "Yedioth Ahronoth" confirmed widespread prices exceeding 24,4 euros per kilogram in various outlets.
The unique circumstances in Israel contribute to this, with a shortage of labor due to workers from Hebron not working since the onset of military actions.
The current season's strawberry prices are exceptionally high, reaching 46,4–48,9 euros per kilogram, up from 24,4 euros a year ago. The usual trend of price reduction may be delayed this year, making it uncertain when and to what extent prices will become more affordable. Moreover, the issue extends beyond Israel's situation, as the cost of transporting fruits and vegetables from the fields to the shelves can multiply 2.5 to 3 times along the way.
