International Seed Health Initiative turns 30

Thirty years ago, the International Seed Health Initiative (ISHI) was born. Following an outbreak of Pepper Mild Mottle Virus (PMMoV), several companies from five countries - France, Israel, Japan, The Netherlands, and the USA - created ISHI to share knowledge and put together internationally recognized standardized tests.

The guiding principle of the initiative is that the development of seed health testing methods for the seed industry should be collaborative rather than competitive. In addition to making its protocols available to all, ISHI's best practices reflect the collective expertise of its members charged with routine seed health testing.

Today, the annual ISHI meetings are joined by up to 70 seed health professionals from more than 10 countries. The next one will be held on 2-6 October in Atlanta, USA.

One of the latest publications is on developing a protocol for the detection of pepino mosaic virus in tomato seed. Check it out here.
