Forwarder Shypple can save greenhouse growers time and costs

Shypple is a relatively young forwarder founded in 2016 as a booking platform. In 2021, Milestone Group was bought and integrated into Shypple. Juri Falandt: "We have a platform that speeds up communication and offers customers quick answers via the chat function. For greenhouse builders, this provides complete insight into their shipments. Not only for the shipper but also for the consignee and possibly other stakeholders. This ensures easy and fast communication where all information and documentation is in one location and accessible to all."

Juri Falandt

Who is Shypple, and what are its transport types?
The forwarder has two offices, of which Rotterdam is the head office where sea freight is arranged. Schiphol is for air freight and has its own warehouse for cross-dock, warehousing, and distribution customers. The location in Belgium is for air and sea freight. They also have locations in Central America in Costa Rica, Honduras, and Guatemala. There, they mainly transport perishable cargo. They also have offices in Thailand and China. The office in China is mainly a "control tower" to coordinate all cargo and take faster action.

Shypple transports through all modes: sea freight, air freight, rail, warehousing, etc. It is also a one-stop shop. Since 2016, the company has been growing at an average annual rate of 75%. They handle about 65,000 tonnes of sea freight and 15,000 tonnes of air freight. And about 45,000 shipments a year.

What is Shypple's added value compared to a 'regular freight forwarder'?
Juri: "So the platform speeds up communication and offers customers quick answers via the chat function. In addition, the platform makes it possible to retrieve all relevant communication and documentation effortlessly."

Everyone involved in the supply chain has access to the same platform, allowing decisions to be made based on shared and reliable information. Tracking ensures that action can be taken. Juri: "We also send proactive notifications, for example, when an expected time of arrival (ETA) has changed. Here, all parties involved are informed immediately, so no time is lost, and decision-making is based on the most up-to-date data."

What specifically does the platform bring to greenhouse builders?
"The platform can save greenhouse builders time and costs. Shypple can make an analysis of their current commodity flows and working methods and use this to adjust the system. This can result in time savings and cost-saving measures. Demurrage and detention can also be prevented," replies Juri. Demurrage charges depend on how long a container is in port after arrival. Detention is a charge for long-term use of the container until it is returned empty to the shipping company.

What do exporters consider important when choosing a forwarder?
"We see that reliability, quality of service, competitive rates, relationship, and innovation are important issues. In the future, systems and sustainability will also play more and more of a role. We now differentiate ourselves from other forwarders in the functionality of the platform they now offer."

And finally... What are important destinations for Shypple?
"The United States and Canada are important destinations, and Shypple transports a lot of shipments to these countries. With partners in those countries, tailor-made solutions can be offered for the delivery of shipments related to greenhouse construction. Locations where these products need to be delivered are not always the easily accessible industrial estates. Shypple, with specialized partners, can ensure the right handling of projects," concludes Juri.
