Midres F1 and Basoche F1 by Italy-based Harmoniz:

Varietal innovation for midi and mini-plum tomato segments

"Midres and Basoche are probably the two most interesting varieties for counter-season cycles, and they are included in Harmoniz's 2023 tomato assortment," according to Giuseppe Busacca, Product Development Harmoniz Italy."

The resistance of these varieties contributes to their success; it is a very comprehensive package that includes, among others, those to ToBRFV, TyLCV, Cladosporium, Bacteriosis, and Fusarium Radiciis. With excellent results, they address the problems related to autumn humidity, as well as the winter season stress. What also stands out in these two varieties is the excellent climatic adaptability found in different production areas, both in Sicily and Central-Southern Italy.

From a commercial standpoint, Midres and Basoche are valued for the quality of the fruit in regard to appearance, shelf life, and taste, and are already present in Italy's main retail outlets."

Midres F1, midi-plum resistant to ToBRFV

Midres F1
"Midres F1 is a plum tomato with resistance to ToBRFV and suitable for winter cultivation. In Sicily, it can be planted between September and December," says the expert. "It is a variety valued from a commercial point of view for its taste. Which is definitely superior to the taste of other important plum tomatoes on the market. But Midres F1 is also valued for its color, firmness, and shelf life. Thanks to a balanced combination of vigor and genetic resistance, the plant adapts well to the winter season, and the fruits maintain their characteristic elongated shape during all stages of cultivation. Fruiting is excellent at low temperatures; growth is continuous, and fruits are uniform both during and after winter. Finally, its resistance to Cladosporium needs to be emphasized because of increasingly stringent European regulations on plant protection products. Resistances are of strategic importance today in variety selection."

Basoche F1, a ToBRFV-resistant cherry plum tomato

Basoche F1
"Basoche F1 is a cherry plum tomato ideal for planting from September to December in Sicily. Its distinctive characteristics when compared to its winter competing varieties are the plant's ability to maintain a uniform date-shaped fruit during short and dark days, as well as a consistent sugar content of about 7 degrees Brix in winter. Since this is a cherry plum tomato, I think it should be stressed that in addition to its resistance to ToBRFV and TyLCV, it is also resistant to Cladosporium, bacterial wilt, and Fusarium Radiciis. The latter is a fundamental resistance for growers who opt for a fast, ungrafted cycle. In addition, it provides high yields throughout the growing cycle."
