AU: New horticulture project proposed near Tongala

A $32 million horticultural glasshouse facility is being proposed for farmland on the Murray Valley Hwy north of Tongala.

A Sydney property investment company has applied for a planning permit for four glasshouses and a packing shed on 35 hectares at the corner of Curr Rd and the highway.

The business could employ more than 100 people, depending on seasonal variations. The business is expected to be operated by a Griffith-registered company, Ttalynhub, which is endeavoring to establish a network of intensive greenhouse facilities across Australia.

The Tongala property is owned by Sydney company, R F Corval VA Pty Ltd, and is currently occupied by a dairy farm. The packing shed to be built on-site is expected to be 170 meters long and 44 meters wide.

The application noted that greenhouse production allowed the grower to ensure consistency of both production volume and quality.
