Malaysian Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu:

‘Output of several vegetables and fruits misses 100% SSR in 2021’

According to Agriculture and Food Security Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu, fruits and vegetables like chili, ginger, cabbage, mango and coconut did not reach the 100% self-sufficiency ratio (SSR) for 2021. Among the vegetables and fruits that have not reached 100 per cent SSR for that year were chili (29.3%), ginger (14.6%), cabbage (40.3%), mango (16.2%) and coconut (69.6%), he said.

Therefore, he said the direction of the sub-sector crops has been formulated would give priority to increasing the production of items that have not reached 100% SSR to guarantee the country's food security. "Food production needs has to be improved because the SSR for 2021 shows that there are still some vegetables and fruits that have not yet reached 100%.”
