NL: Damage to greenhouse after large fire in a caravan shed in Bleiswijk

A caravan shed between greenhouses in Bleiswijk burned down on the evening of May 10. No one was injured, but the damage is extensive.

Grower Kees van Egmond, whose farm is adjacent to the burning caravan shed, reported live on Twitter how he was protecting his greenhouse. The glass shattered due to the heat, despite the grower trying to keep the facade wet with water. The damage has been reported to the insurer, and the greenhouse builder is already coming to take stock today.

(This fire right behind our greenhouse is now affecting us too. Terrible.)

The very large fire could not be kept under control for several hours. The fire brigade was unable to prevent some three hundred campers and caravans from burning down.

(This was an hour and a half ago. Meanwhile, the fire seems to be under control. To be clear, these are sheds behind our company with caravans and campers and solar panels on the roof. At our place, the rear 15m over 135m are badly damaged in terms of broken glass and mess.)

Fire does not spread to greenhouses
The fire brigade managed to prevent the fire from spreading to surrounding greenhouses. The fire brigade advised those greenhouses to keep closed. There are solar panels on the greenhouses, which could give way due to the heat. "If that happens, glass particles also settle in the surrounding area," a spokesperson for the fire brigade explained to RTV Lansingerland. "Hence we are trying with all our might to prevent the fire from spreading."

Rijnmondveilig, the information and warning platform of the joint emergency services for information on risks, incidents, and disasters, warns of burnt debris in the area.

Many images of the large fire on Carnation Road can be found on (regional) news websites. The shed is part of the large chain Stalling31.
