Above-ground corrugated iron water tanks by Petrus

“Those who have tried our product often order a second one”

The French company Petrus, based in the Pas-de-Calais department, specializes in curved corrugated iron and manufactures water tanks for farmers, vegetable producers, horticulturists, and nursery workers. Still relatively unknown in France, this system has gained popularity due to the increasingly frequent periods of drought.

"The demand from fruit and vegetable growers is very high. They are the main users of our water tanks," explains Mathieu Doyen, who took over the company in 2012. "We were already making water tanks at the time, but they were not very popular yet."

With its historical knowledge and production facilities, Petrus SA designs above-ground steel tanks that are easy to install.

The demand for these products keeps growing and comes from all regions of France. "We recently installed tanks on a kiwi farm in the Somme department and on a strawberry farm in the Pas-de-Calais. Those who have tried our product, with the series of droughts we have experienced, often order a second one! Some tanks were recently transported to Reunion Island in a convoy consisting of 9 tanks for a total volume of 1,139 m³.

"Our biggest advantage is that we have a lot of stock because we manufacture sheet metal, so we can respond very quickly to the demand." The company can produce up to 800 sheets per week, or 30,000 sheets per year. "Our largest tanks measure up to 30 m in diameter for 2,500 m³, but we also have small 'emergency' tanks (20 to 50 m³) that can be delivered very quickly."

With a storage capacity of 4 m³ to 2,500 m³, a diameter of 1.85 to 30 meters, and heights between 1.72 and 5.05 meters. Petrus' water tanks are also of interest to manufacturers wanting to save on costs or looking for green and innovative solutions.

At Petrus, 50% of the revenue comes from exports, especially to Belgium and the Netherlands, but the company wants to focus on its development in France. "There is great potential in France," explains Mathieu. Water reserves are common here, but mainly in the form of pockets. The advantage of our above-ground tanks is that they take up much less space."

Petrus is a small company of 9 employees who put their clients first. "We are very reactive when issues come up, and most importantly, we listen to our clients' needs and requests."
