In 2023-2028, Uzbekistan will implement a project to create a value chain in the horticulture industry with the participation of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), the total cost of which is $323 million, EastFruit experts report.
On March 15, 2023, the Decree of the head of state “On measures to implement the project “The creation of a value chain in the horticulture industry (2nd stage)” was adopted with the participation of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), where the main technical and economic indicators of the project, the JICA loan repayment scheme for the project and the Roadmap for project implementation were approved.
The total cost of the project is $323 million, of which:
- A loan from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) – $200 million;
- The contribution of the Republic of Uzbekistan to the implementation of the project in the form of covering the value-added tax and providing benefits on customs payments – $ 58.3 million;
- Contribution of the Project participants (loan recipients – Project initiators) – $64.8 million.
The project is being implemented in all regions of Uzbekistan, with an implementation period of 6 years – from 2023 to 2028.
The Decree established that credit funds are allocated to the initiators of the project for projects on the production, storage, processing, packaging, shock freezing of fruits and vegetables, logistics (including the purchase of cargo transportation equipment), and the creation of other capacities, projects in the food industry, as well as for replenishment of working capital. Loans are provided in Uzbek soums (UZS) at the main rate of the Central Bank of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
At the end of August 2022, EastFruit wrote about the signing of a loan agreement between Uzbekistan and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) to allocate a loan of $200 million to finance the project “The creation of a value chain in the horticulture industry (2nd stage)” in the Republic of Uzbekistan.
