P&C Automation's palletizing solutions are custom designed to suit clients' requirements. The company recently delivered a palletizing solution to Australian producer Bendotti Avocado.
While the system delivered to Bendotti Avocado was designed for palletizing up to two different product types simultaneously at a rate of 24 trays per minute, P&C Automation offers a range of palletizing solutions that can do much higher throughputs depending on the client's requirements.
"The move to transition into the world of robotics was at first quite a nerve-wracking as we were unable to go and witness any operating system in avocados or discuss with any existing packing sheds their experiences with robotic palletizing in Australia. The nerves were put at ease quickly with the professionalism and diligence that the team at P&C Automation were able to offer us throughout the whole process, from design & quote all the way through to the installation and handover.
"The team was very supportive even after the handover, and the backup support was of a very high standard despite being on the opposite side of the country with time differences. The system delivered has not been without its challenges, as with all new systems, this will be the case, that said we have no doubt that in the long term, as we battle staff shortages and increased wages that this system will be extremely beneficial to our operation," said a representative from Bendotti Avocados.
"The design of our robotic palletizing system uses a pre-stacking system and custom-designed robotic tooling, which allows for the precise alignment and placement of trays. This allows the system to accurately and consistently place interlocking trays on a pallet with all four tray corners being nested together correctly. Having this capability allows our robotic palletizing systems to be highly flexible to not only stack flat bottom cartons, but as well a range of sizes interlocking trays used across Avocados, citrus, and mangoes," said Hayden Stewart, Director at P&C Automation.
The key benefit of this solution is the elimination of manual handling and the increasing palletizing efficiency. This system reduced the need to find, train and retain staff willing to complete this highly physical task of picking, transferring, and stacking trays on pallets in an accurate fashion. The robotic palletizing system completes this task in place of manual labor in a safer, quicker, and more accurate, and reliable way. Thus increasing throughput, all the while offering improved pallet presentation and total elimination of manual handling injuries, heat stress/exhaustion, and the overall struggle of finding willing workers to complete manual staking.
"This solution saves a minimum of 2 workers, which, in busy times during the packing season it, can save up to 3 to 4. However, we offer systems which can greatly increase this number to be higher, in some cases fully removing the need for manual stacking staff in some facilities."
