AromaDomus

First producers' organization for fresh herbs founded in Italy

Aromatic herbs have always been among the leading products of the territories bordering the Mediterranean. In particular, Liguria (Albenga) and Cilento (Paestum) have come together to create a very unique aromatic ensemble, from which the producers' organization AromaDomus was born.

"Love for the land, passion for life, and a knack for good food is how we can sum up what we do," says Raffaele Palma, president of the growers' organization. "Our passion is reflected in the quality of our products. We grow them in the greenhouse and in open fields, with full dedication to accentuating their unique characteristics and creating a perfect harmony between nature and taste. The agrarian traditions of the two territories and the production skills acquired through the many years of experience of our grower members enable us to grow herbs with attention to health, productivity, and sustainability. The decision to set up a new cultivation site in Albenga was motivated to diversify in order to minimize the risks due to climate change - with increasingly unpredictable weather conditions."

Thanks to an innovative management system, the traceability of the product is strictly monitored, starting with the sowing of the crop, and at all subsequent stages, from transplanting to harvesting, packaging, and delivery to the customer.

Basil, parsley, mint, sage, rosemary, bay leaf, thyme, chives, dill, fennel and marjoram are just some of the aromatic herbs grown by the growers' organization and pre-cut to market. "We are always looking for the best varieties and, to this end, we also select and test hybrids in collaboration with some universities," explained Palma. "And that's not all. By carefully managing all stages of the production cycle, we can always guarantee our customers fresh produce, delivered to their destination within 24 hours of harvest. There are six packaging lines, allowing us to offer our aromatic herbs in trays and sachets of different weights."

Today, the growers' organization has about 100 hectares in three different regions of Italy dedicated to growing aromatic herbs for fresh consumption. "All this allows us to consistently deliver quality products year-round and to effectively control the supply chain, as it is fully managed by us," he said.

"We use only first-selection GMO-free seeds, certified peat, and sustainable cultivation methods with low environmental impact. Harvesting is done only by hand, and after a short storage in cold rooms with temperatures adapted to each crop, careful and rigorous selection follows during the packing stage. Only qualified and specifically trained staff follow up the various production stages with precision. Traceability is the common thread in every processing stage, as a short supply chain is synonymous with a healthy and quality product."

AromaDomus pays close attention to the theme of environmental sustainability. "Our eco-friendly approach starts right at the cultivation stage. In the greenhouse, for example, we use a drip irrigation system that reduces water consumption. We also opt for renewable energy sources, the reuse of raw packaging, and, above all, recycling 100% of our waste. All plastic packaging materials are 100% recyclable and largely already recycled, to keep our carbon footprint small until the end of the production process," concluded Raffaele Palma.

AromaDomus is exhibiting for the first time at Fruit Logistica: hall 4.2, stand A-30.
