Pietro Paolo Ciardiello from Coop Sole

"We'd like to extend the commercial calendar for strawberries and melons"

"We are ending the year with a 7% growth in volumes and a 5% one in value. Over the past decade, our turnover has more than doubled, and we are hoping our company will grow next year as well," reports Pietro Paolo Ciardiello, director of Coop Sole in Parete (Caserta).

"Although this has been a difficult year for the entire segment, with packaging and transport costs increased by 20% and tripled energy costs, and although such difficulties worsened during the last part of the year, we have grown and have managed to pay our partners very well. Had there not been an increase in costs, we would have reached results comparable with 2021, which was characterized by strong growth in value more than volumes."

Coop Sole has grown in the production of organic fruits, berries, and strawberries and stabilized when it comes to other productions, such as winter vegetables and summer fruits.

As for the objectives for 2023, Ciardiello reports that "even though we expect a tough year, we will continue to work to strengthen our relationships while finding new channels as well. We also want to extend our strawberry commercialization calendar."

"To improve our SìBon branded premium strawberry line, we will continue to develop crop techniques and new varieties and extend the harvesting calendar. We will also work on berries, which are giving us great satisfaction, and we will probably plant more raspberries. By the end of 2023, the entire Coop Sole blueberry production will be organic. Finally, we want to extend the melon calendar between May and September."

Coop Sole cares about varietal and technological innovation. It has, in fact, set up test fields for new summer fruits that adapt to the area and are less sensitive to diseases to produce healthy fruits that are good to eat, in line with the corporate vision.
