Dutch tomato grower expands into strawberry cultivation

From now on, Kwekerij 't Woudt will be cultivating strawberries at one of its locations in the Netherlands. That is in addition to mini cherry vine tomatoes.

The idea to grow strawberries started two years ago. That gained momentum when Rick and Wessel van Koppen joined the company. Thus, come October 2021, the growers decided to order strawberry plants.

The choice to cultivate strawberries is in line with the growers' vision to specialize and be distinctive by growing tasty, healthy products. "We see market and growth opportunities in strawberry cultivation, and it helps with risk diversification," they write in a post on LinkedIn.

Switching from tomato to strawberry cultivation meant the greenhouse had to be modified. It has now been converted, and next week planting starts so that growers can harvest the first strawberries in February. "A great challenge we're very much looking forward to," the growers conclude the post.
