Food safety comes first. From the seed to the final product in the supermarket, everything must be traceable. If something goes wrong, we can then find out exactly where it came from in order to solve the problem as quickly as possible.
One such flaw could also be found with siloliners and basin liners. DelaFleX has taken precautionary measures. "We are the first to be allowed to carry the Foodgrade certificate," explains Bas van der Elst of DL Plastics. "All FPP material for liners for silos and basins which carries the Foodgrade certificate with us is extensively tested by the inspection authority for food safety. Our material has no toxic releases to surface water," he continues.
The Foodgrade certificate allows suppliers and growers to demonstrate that their products guarantee public health.
From 2027, it will be a legal requirement that no irrigation water can be discharged. All irrigation water must be fully recirculating. DL Plastics can already see the storm coming and has prepared for the future with this certificate. But even if this law was not looming, greenhouse horticulture is seeing the emergence of more closed cultivation systems, hydroponic systems, and indoor farms. Bas: "The Foodgrade certificate is an absolute advantage."
"By the way, all PVC certificates have been withdrawn. The plasticisers in them are no longer permitted. Liner manufacturers, therefore, offer FPP. FPP is the solution, and our certificate is the proof," Bas says. The inspection body, and therefore the certificate that DL Plastics engages for this purpose, is recognized worldwide. DL Plastics supplies DelafleX liners with the food grade certificate worldwide.
